Terms of service

These terms are the agreement between you and Akina (“Akina”, “we”) for the website and everything on it. Using the site means you accept them. If you don't, the honest answer is not to use it — and to delete anything you've already created.

How we handle what you write is a separate document: the privacy policy. It is the more important of the two and worth reading first.

What Akina is, and what it is not

Akina offers AI companion conversations and an optional real-member community. AI characters are labelled as AI companions. In Meet people and Messages, you communicate with other registered users through invitations and private messages. Member profiles and ages are self-described and are not independently verified.

• She is software. In AI companion conversations, replies are generated by a language model. Member conversations are separate: their messages come from the other account holder, not an AI companion.
• She is not a therapist, a doctor, or a lawyer, and nothing she says is professional advice. She is not trained, supervised, or accountable in the way a professional is. If something in your life needs one of those, please go to one.
• She is not a crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact your local emergency number or a crisis line in your country. A companion cannot call anyone for you, and waiting for her to help you is a worse plan than the one you already have.
• She can be wrong. Language models state false things confidently, including about themselves. Don't rely on anything she says as fact without checking it.

Who can use it

You must be 18 or older. This is an emotional companionship product, and that is not a category we are willing to offer minors. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 18, we delete it.

You may talk to a companion for 5 messages without an account. These terms apply to those messages too.

Your account

• One account per person. Keep your sign-in email secure — anyone with access to it can read every conversation on the account.
• You're responsible for what happens on your account. Tell us if you think someone else has got into it.
• You can delete your account at any time from your account page. It is immediate and irreversible.

What you may not do

Most of this is what you would expect. It is written out because “don't be bad” is not something anyone can act on.

• Anything sexual involving minors, in any framing, including in a character you write or a scenario you set up. This is prohibited. We may restrict access while reviewing a report. You may challenge an incorrect identification through our contact page; this does not permit underage use.
• Using a companion to plan real harm to yourself or anyone else, or to produce material that would be illegal where you are or where we operate.
• Impersonating a real person in a character you write, or building a companion designed to harass someone.
• Automated access — scripts, scrapers, or bulk requests against the site or its API. There is a free tier precisely so you don't have to.
• Reselling access, sharing an account commercially, or presenting Akina's output as your own product.
• Probing the system — attacking the infrastructure, trying to reach other people's conversations, or working around usage limits.

Adult romance and consensual flirting are welcome; explicit sexual acts, coercion, exploitation, harassment and scams are prohibited. AI instructions, deterministic crisis checks and configured content rules support these limits. Generated replies are buffered for checks before display. These checks can miss context and do not replace human review. Report member misconduct through the profile or conversation menu, and follow the result in Your reports. Characters you write

• You are responsible for what you put in a character — it goes into the instructions the model receives, and the rules above apply to it exactly as they apply to a message.
• Characters are private to your account. Nothing is published or shared with other users.
• We can remove a character that breaks these terms. Contact us to request the reason for a decision or challenge a mistake.

Who owns what

• What you write stays yours. You give us permission to store it and send it to the model provider, because otherwise there is no reply — and nothing beyond that. We do not use it to train models or license it to anyone.
• The replies are yours to use. We claim no ownership over what a companion says to you.
• The built-in companions, the site, the questionnaire and its scoring are ours. Please don't copy them wholesale.

Paying for it

• Plus is $9.99 a month, or $79.99 a year. Prices are in US dollars. Any tax that applies where you live is shown at checkout before you pay.
• It renews by itself until you cancel. The same amount is charged on the same date each period. You are told the amount and the date on the checkout page before you agree to it.
• Cancelling takes one click, from your account page, at any time. It stops the next renewal and nothing else — you keep Plus until the end of the period you have already paid for. We never end it the moment you cancel, and there is nothing you have to email us about.
• Payment is handled by a reseller, who is the seller of record: they take the payment, handle tax, and issue your receipt. Their name, not ours, is what appears on your card statement. We never see or hold your card details.
• If we raise the price, existing subscribers get notice before it applies to them, and it never applies to a period already paid for.
• Refunds: write to us and we will sort it out. If a charge is wrong, or something is broken and we can't fix it, you get your money back. Statutory rights where you live apply on top of anything written here and are not affected by it.
• The free tier stays useful. Daily message limits and what Plus adds are shown in the product and can change, but we are not going to take away something you already have and sell it back to you.

Availability and changes

This is a product in active development. Features appear, change, and occasionally get removed; the site will sometimes be down. We don't promise a level of availability, and we may change or discontinue parts of the service. If we ever shut down entirely, we will give notice with enough time to export your conversations.

Ending it

• You can leave whenever you want, from your account page. Export first if you want to keep anything — after deletion we cannot recover it.
• We can suspend or end an account that breaks these terms. You can view your submitted report outcomes and contact us with a report reference or your account email to request review of a restriction. We do not disclose another person's private evidence or promise round-the-clock review.

The legal part

The service is provided as it is. We don't warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that a companion will say anything in particular. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability is limited to what you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and if you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Iowa, United States, and its courts have jurisdiction — without taking away any right you have to bring a claim where you live.

Changes to these terms

When these change materially we'll say so on the site rather than quietly editing the date. The date at the top is when this version took effect.
